Bristol fire cooking collective

Ubuntu Food is a fire cooking collective based in Bristol. The African philosophy of Ubuntu underpins our mission of deepening people’s connection with nature through food and open fire cooking. We work to consciously create memorable food experiences that celebrate our cultural heritage, and the ceremony of gathering to eat in the outdoors. Our menu’s speak of seasonality, localised food systems, and uplifts the soul of good food.

The value of our experiences are rooted in the community of places and people who make what we do possible. A diverse collective of farmers, growers, artisans and creatives who actively challenge the systems we are a part of in order to create resilience in our food industry. We love working with people from all walks of life, working collaboratively to design unique food and fire experiences that elevate the spirit of your special occasion, and stay with guests long after the feast has finished.

Our fire cooking collective continues to evolve season on season. Our passion is curating immersive feasts for a diverse range of events. From smaller intimate gatherings around the fire pit, through to large ceremonial long table feasts at special occasions, weddings and festivals. A collective of experienced hospitality creatives who strive to be the change we want to see in our industry. Meaningful. Connected. Considered in each detail.

from Founder and Chef, Imke Potgieter

For as long as I remember food and fire has been at the centre of my life. I grew up in a big South African family on the Norfolk Coast, where my curiosity for exploring natural landscapes with my siblings, and my love for experiencing the magic of good food shared with others first started.

Exploring the intertwined relationship of food, people and culture, has in many ways underpinned my curiosities as a Chef, and formed the core culture of Ubuntu Food. Cooking and eating with people from across the world continues to feed my desire to delve deeper into our relationship with food, and its source. From exploring and foraging wild landscapes, to cooking for our community in unique outdoor places; I have always felt a deep sense of purpose surrounded by nature and exchanging with people around a fire.
